On July 23rd, 2024, the big day finally arrived—my sister (a true Swiftie) and I were headed to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Hamburg, Night 1.

Tickets

I was lucky to get tickets just 15 minutes after the presale for the Hamburg shows started. After selecting a price range (I chose €220), I was automatically assigned seats in Sector 7A, Row 11. These were on the first floor, offering a diagonal view of the stage.

The View

The seats and the view were fantastic. We were relatively close to the stage and had a great overview of the entire setup and screens. The only downside was that one of the lighting poles blocked part of the screen. I assume the only sectors that wouldn’t have this issue were directly in front of the stage.

Overall, we were thrilled with our decision to get seats. It definitely reduced the stress of having to arrive at the venue super early. We had a clear view and could sit if we got tired during the 3.5-hour concert.

The Timeline

Since we had seats and bought our merch the day before, we didn’t need to arrive at the venue too early. However, we still wanted enough time to enjoy the atmosphere, exchange friendship bracelets, and take plenty of photos. So, we got to the stadium around 4:30 PM.

The Performance

It’s hard to say anything that hasn’t already been said—Taylor delivered a top-tier show. The concept, execution, performance, and setlist were all so well thought. And Lover and Fearless Eras were performed during a pouring rain. Talk about the dedication!

One thing that has likely been mentioned before is that there’s so much happening that it’s hard to take it all in at the moment. There were very few short breaks (I was surprised by how quickly Taylor managed to change outfits; none of the breaks seemed longer than 2 minutes), so there wasn’t much time to mentally recover from one era before the next one began.

The Setlist

The setlist is well-known by now. For the surprise songs, we were treated to "Teardrops on My Guitar / The Last Time" on the guitar and "We Were Happy / Happiness" on the piano. Find the full Hamburg N1 setlist here.

The Audience

The audience was just great. Everyone around us was singing along loudly, but there was no obnoxious screaming or behavior that disrupted the experience. The atmosphere was friendly and respectful, with people exchanging friendship bracelets and simply having the time of their lives. The entire stadium was on its feet throughout the show, even during the slower sets like folklore/evermore or the surprise songs.

The Venue

I’ve written a separate post about what you need to know about Volksparkstadion, where you can find all the info for future shows. One thing I want to emphasize here is a mistake we made after the concert. We decided to walk to the S-Bahn station "Stellingen" (the main train station for the stadium, also served by shuttle buses) with the rest of the crowd. We thought it might be fun, with everyone singing and keeping the concert vibe alive, but we were so wrong. We got stuck in the crowd for over an hour, and it took forever to reach the train. So, for my fellow Hamburgers, I strongly recommend heading to the earlier station called "Eidelstedt." It’s definitely less crowded, and the walking distance is very similar to "Stellingen."
