One of my top music discoveries of 2024 is the band Tors. I first came across them when they opened for James Blunt in Hamburg. I loved their music so much that I was eager to see them live again. While checking their EU tour dates, I realized I could catch their London show. Conveniently, I was already planning to be in London that weekend to see Keane on Saturday, flying in directly from Istanbul after a company event. The schedule was tight, but how could I call myself a concert enthusiast if I wasn’t up for the challenge?

We managed to get standing tickets through a local resale site for just £19 each—one of the perks of smaller gigs! The concert took place at Islington Assembly Hall, a lovely venue with a capacity of about 500 people. It had a cozy atmosphere, complete with small bars inside, making it easy to grab a drink during the show.

From Istanbul to the Concert

The day started early in Istanbul with breakfast before I headed to the airport. Despite some long queues, everything went smoothly, and my flight departed on time. After landing in London, I took the train to my friend’s house, got ready, had a quick bite, and we were off to the concert!

Unfortunately, we missed the opening bands but arrived just in time for Tors!

The Show

The band gave an incredible performance! This was my first smaller gig of the year, and I loved the vibe. While arena and stadium concerts are impressive, smaller gigs have their own unique charm—a cozy atmosphere and a more relaxed experience. And let’s face it, you don’t have to queue for hours unless you’re set on being in the front row (which wasn’t an option for me this time, considering I came straight from the airport, ha!).

We grabbed a beer and enjoyed the show. My friend, who had never heard of Tors before, absolutely loved it and left as a new fan.

The Setlist

The setlist was fantastic, featuring many of their best songs. You can check it out here. If you’re not familiar with Tors, I highly recommend giving them a listen—you won’t regret it!

Why You Should See Smaller Bands

Supporting smaller bands in intimate venues is not only budget-friendly but also a fantastic way to discover new music. These shows often offer a more personal and memorable experience. If you have the chance to see a smaller band on tour, take it—you might just find your next favorite artist!

Tors made my Friday unforgettable, and I hope they’ll become one of your discoveries too!

The Friday with Tors was a wrap, and the very next day was all about Keane! Stay tuned for more concert stories!
